Since landing his first big role in a national commercial for Mr. Big candy bars nearly a decade ago, actor James Preston Rogers has gone on to star in a long list of critically acclaimed films and television shows.

James is currently working on several films including Pixels, a sci-fi comedy starring Young Hollywood Award winner Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars, How I Met Your Mother, Spring Breakers, Time Warrior, Eastwick, Supernatural), Golden Globe nominee Michelle Monaghan (True Detective, American Dad, Expecting, Due Date, Made of Honor, Source Code, Eagle Eye) and multi-award winning actor Adam Sandler (Happy Gilmore, Grow Ups, Big Daddy, Spanglish, 50 First Dates, Mr. Deeds).

Scheduled for release in 2015, James plays the role of Seal in Pixels, a film that follows a group of video game experts who are recruited by the military to fight a team of 1980s era video game characters who attack New York. Pixels is being produced by Columbia Pictures and Adam Sandler’s company Happy Madison Productions.

Some of James Preston Rogers’ past work includes the films Defendor, Outlander, Max Payne, You Might as Well Live, Ultra, Degrassi Goes Hollywood, Death Warrior, Unrivaled, and the television shows Flashpoint, Love Bites, Cra$h & Burn, Lost Girl, King and Alphas.

James showed his unparalleled abilities as an actor in the role of Big Mitch in the hit film A Beginner’s Guide to Endings, where he starred alongside Leo Award winner Tricia Helfer (TRON: Uprising, Community, Killer Women, 37, Dangerous Intuition, Spun Out, Criminal Minds), seven-time Gemini Award winner Wendy Crewson (The Bridge, Endgame, Crimes of Passion, The Vow, Revenge), and Oscar nominee Harvey Keitel (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Piano, Reservoir Dogs, From Dusk til Dawn, Inglorious Bastards).

The film, which received three awards at the Newport Beach Film Festival and was nominated for a Director’s Guild of Canada Award, follows three brothers who, in the wake of discovering that they only have a few days to live, set off on a journey to reverse a lifetime of mistakes.

With a naturally tall and muscular physique James Preston Rogers is an actor who is most often cast in tough and dominating roles like those of the villain and the superhero, but beneath it all James is a dedicated actor who maintains utilitarian goals when it comes to his work.

“I hope to evoke emotion in others, help them escape for even just a little while into different worlds and different times and different thoughts,” explained James. “I feel that I’ve reached success whenever I can lend my name to a worthy cause, and am able to try and change this world for the better.”

As for James Preston Rogers’ other upcoming projects, he is currently working on the film Love, Guns and Christmas, and the television series Man Seeking Woman, and he is also slated to star in the role of Hercules in the upcoming feature film Jason and the Necronauts.

Over the course of his career James has proven time and time again that he has what it takes to act alongside some of the biggest actors in the world, and with the high level of acclaim that literally all of his projects have received it is clear that audiences around the world look forward to seeing what’s next for this actor. Although it is not set in stone just yet, audiences may have the opportunity to see James in a Disney show in 2015 as the actor has been in talks with the mass media giant and the future looks promising.

PictureCinematographer Kristin Fieldhouse
As an audience, when we sit down to watch a film we generally do not consider shot by shot the immense work that has gone in to creating the moving story unfolding before us, after all, it’s not the technical setup that pulls us in, it is the story.

For cinematographer Kristin Fieldhouse, maintaining the integrity of the story is the cornerstone of her creative process when it comes to taking a project from its written form to the visual end product.

Kristin Fieldhouse explains, “A cinematographer is the ultimate gatekeeper of the image. They are there to make choices in how a story is told visually and to help convey the artistic information through their use of camera and lighting choices.”

Kristin is comparatively modest when it comes to talking about the powerful role she plays in the creation of a film or television series, a feature of her character that not only makes her a rarity in the entertainment industry, but something that has made her a highly sought after cinematographer as well. When a cinematographer’s ego and creative vision are not inline with the vision of the director and the overall story the resulting product is more often than not, incoherent; and while the project might be visually appealing, the substance of the work usually ends there. This has and will never be the kind of work we see from Kristin Fieldhouse as her passion for the story and her commitment to the collaboration process are most important.

Although individual praise is in no way a part of Kirstin’s motivation to work on a project, the caliber of her work has made it virtually impossible for her to go unrecognized. Her work as the cinematographer on the recent film Young Americans garnered her the Best Cinematography Award at the Milledgeville Film Festival and the John Kelly Award for Excellence in Cinematography at the Fresno Film Festival earlier this year. Written and directed by Kevin Lacy (The Man Who Found DB Cooper, I Love Sick, Numerica, They Put a Man on the Earth), Young Americans follows a broke young woman who is on the verge of aging out of foster care, and so, in an effort to gain financial stability she plans a bank robbery with the help of an admirer and former classmate. So far the film has received 11 awards including the American Film Institute’s Richard P. Rogers Spirit of Excellence Award, the IFS Award at the Independent Filmmakers Showcase IFS Film Festival, the Audience Awards at the Ashland Independent Film Festival and the Rhode Island International Film Festival, the Audience Choice Award at the Sedona International Film Festival, and others.

“As part of my commitment to the team I was able to secure the Technicolor Film Grant (only given once a year to a worthwhile project), which gave us a large donation of film stock,” explains Kristin. “My role with the film took place over a year long period whereby I was fully involved with script development, location scouting, logistical planning, camera testing, film stock testing, shot list development, storyboards, booking crew and securing gear. The film came together very well because of a strong team.”

A testament to Kristin Fieldhouse’s impeccable creative talent as a cinematographer, Young Americans was recently bought by mass media leader Condé Naste and will be shown to audiences across the world through several video on demand outlets including Netflix and Hulu.

Over the years Kristin has worked with entertainment industry icons like Johathan Demme, Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Beil, William Shatner and many more. She has also been a key contributor to the camera departments of the hit television shows Warehouse 13, Unrivaled, Latest Buzz, Alphas, Mob Stories II, Flashpoint, Happy Town, Abra Ca Debra, Nikita and Covert Affairs.

With unwavering dedication to her craft Kristin Fieldhouse is the kind of cinematographer whose contributions ensure the success of every project she touches, and we are excited to see what’s next for her.

Line producer and documentary filmmaker Nicola De Stefani laughs in the face of danger as he takes documentary and commercial productions to new heights on some of the tallest mountains in the world.

Sitting atop a saddled horse in Mongolia close to the border between the Tuva region in Siberia, Nicola (Nick) De Stefani watched the Tuvan Turkic nomads, known as the Tsaatan or Reindeer people, bid him farewell, and he turned away to hide the tears in his eyes. After more than three weeks of living, eating, and traveling with the Tsaatan nomads, De Stefani found it too hard to see their time together come to a close. The Tsaatan prepared a special parting ceremony for De Stefani and his crew, offering them sweet Reindeer’s milk, and wishing them well on their travels.

“They knew we were probably gone forever, but not forever forgotten. I was on a horse saddle, the last one standing there, I couldn’t leave for a while, I only left when tears filled my eyes and I didn’t want them to see me like that,” remembers Nick De Stefani.

Nick De Stefani and his crew had become a part of the nomadic group, even helping them move their camp to a lower altitude once the winter grew harsh. According to De Stefani, the whole experience felt somewhat like a dream, a powerful encounter with a nomadic people from a disappearing world. De Stefani catalogued this tribe’s day-to-day life through the eyes of their chief for his eye-opening documentary, Tsaatan, Gli Uomini Renna, or Tsaatan, the Reindeer Men, which he produced for Mediaset, Italy’s largest commercial broadcaster.

Nick De Stefani produced the documentary through World Watching Film, an Italian production company that he began in 1990. He took on and mastered a huge variety of roles for the company, working as a cameraman, producer, sound recorder, writer, art director, grip, and other crew roles. De Stefani was able to mold his plethora of talents to fit any challenge that arose during production, and as an indie production company that mainly shot documentaries in locales thousands of feet above sea level, extraordinary problems were the norm.

World Watching Film produced nearly twenty pieces for television between 1990 and 1995, most of which were nature documentaries that specialized in educating viewers on habitat diversity and conservation. For all of these documentaries, De Stefani passionately worked a myriad of roles, drawing on his lifelong experience in the wild.

Of his outdoors experience, De Stefani remembers “Being a mountaineer since I was a kid, a free climber in my teens and early twenties, and an avid lover of the outdoors, I was mostly involves in projects that were shot in the mountains or in the cold. Because of my great interest in natural life and biology, I was the one who suggested which animals or plants we were going to portrait and which became the subjects of our documentaries.” It was this passion that pushed De Stefani to the limit of his ability to survive, to take on formidable challenges in the hopes of producing work that could enlighten viewers about the diversity and beauty of life on our planet.

“To be able to pass their culture and their way of life to those who saw our documentary,” De Stefani remembers, “to be able to show how those people were living once, and will probably not be able to survive for long, I believe that was a precious portrait of a common past, and a lesson for our common future.”

Nick De Stefani’s undeniable passion for his art has taken him across the globe and will continue to enthrall and educate audiences worldwide. His bravery and composure under immense pressures is a testament to his dedication to his work as a producer and all around film artist who will never compromise or cut corners.

PictureTalented Actress Rebekah Miskin

Throughout her accomplished entertainment career, Canadian born theatrical artist Rebekah Miskin has continually demonstrated the multi-faceted nature of her acting talents.

Well versed in a myriad of creative abilities such as acting, writing, producing, djing and dancing, Miskin has established an impressive track record for such a young talent with her increasing presence in the Canadian film industry, as well as abroad.

Given her passion and talent for the arts, it’s not surprising that Miskin has built a repertoire of award-winning productions in which she has played a myriad of diverse roles, but what is astonishing is the fact that she is not even 20-years-old.

One such part includes her role on Mayday, a documentary television program investigating and reenacting a range of disasters such as air crashes, hijackings and more. The series received a Gemini Award as well as numerous nominations at the Canadian Society of Cinematographers Awards. Some of Miskin’s other recent acting projects include Records for Maggie, Long Story, Reviving Ophelia and Murdoch Mysteries.

“I think the most important quality to possess as an actor is the ability to diversify… I think I’ve been incredibly lucky in the sense that I haven’t gotten boxed in or typecast into playing one certain kind of role,” says Rebekah Miskin.

The film A Subsequent Life, which was released last year, is yet another testament to Rebekah Miskin’s diverse talents in the industry. In the wake of her only brother’s death, A Subsequent Life is an account of selected excerpts of a young woman’s life forever changed by tragedy.

A Subsequent Life was chosen as an Official Selection at The Toronto International Short Film Festival, Toronto Independent Film Festival, LA Femme International Film Festival, International Film Festival of Cinematic Arts– Los Angeles, as well as Montreal and New York’s Zero Film Festival, and others.

Starring alongside Katie Boland from The Master, The Life Before This, Sex After Kids, Growing Up, and Daydream Nation, and Kit Weyman from Warehouse 13, Flashpoint, and Degrassi: The Next Generation, Miskin gave a knockout performance in the starring role of Zoe. Proving her broad understanding of all aspects of filmmaking, Miskin not only played the leading role in the film, as well as produced the film through her production company Matchstick Motion Pictures Inc., but she also co-wrote and co-directed A Subsequent Life alongside Katie Boland. Boland has received countless awards over the course of her career including Best Screenplay at the Hamilton Film Festival and Best Actress at the Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival for the film Sweetieface, a Young Artist Award for her role in Salem Witch Trials, as well as numerous Gemini and Leo Award nominations. Boland and Miskin also star alongside one another in the hit television series Long Story, Short.

When asked about her upcoming goals, Miskin says, “I plan to act as long as I can talk and walk! I want to continue to collaborate more and more with awesomely talented and wonderful people!” She further elaborates, “I’d like to play roles that genuinely connect with an audience - enough for me to make someone think, or laugh, or reflect. I think the greatest actors eternalize certain characters that take on a meaning and importance of their own.”

Rebekah Miskin embodies authenticity in her projects and professional life. Over the years she has proven time and time again that she is a leading force in the entertainment industry, and she promises to continue to show us more of her astonishing talents for many years to come.

Master Composer Alex Redfern

PictureAlex Redfern conducting an orchestra at Ann Kreis Scoring Stage in Valencia, Spain

Born and raised in Bury St. Edmunds, in Suffolk, England, Alex Redfern has been dazzling international audiences over the last few years with his incredible talent as a composer for film and television. Redfern realized his passion for both music and film early on in his youth, but at the time he never imagined that the two mediums would someday intertwine and provide him with the successful career he enjoys today.

After receiving his B.A. from the UK’s Leeds College of Music, Redfern went on to obtain a Masters of Music in Scoring for Film, Television and Video Games at the renowned Berklee College of Music. During his time at Berklee College of Music, Redfern was recognized for his extraordinary abilities as a composer and was the recipient of the prestigious Friends of Leeds College of Music Prize in Music Production, an award that is given to the top student in the course.

Redfern’s most recent film projects as a composer include Happy Face, Tumbleweed: A True Story, and the film Sisterhood of The Red Garter 3D, which is scheduled for release next year. In addition to working as a composer, Redfern has also played a critical role in the music department of the films The Curse of The Un-kissable Kid, Larsons Field, Penguin Trek, Holy Land, Varanasi and Disney’s upcoming film Cinderella.

Redfern displayed his ability to seamlessly blend and heighten the energy of each scene and the overall film with his fantastical musical creations in Marc Juvé’s film Happy Face.

“It is an adventure film, Marc chose me to score the film after I did a demo to one of the scenes,” explained Alex Redfern. “It is a great Spielberg-esque film with an orchestral score, which I got to record in Spain.”

A Spanish film, Happy Face follows an innocent and awkward young boy named Lucas who is promised acceptance into the cool kids group if he can retrieve a certain hidden treasure from a frightening old man’s eerie mansion. Redfern ingeniously created the film’s musical composition in a way that builds an incredible parallel story alongside the visual aspects of the film. The composer used subtle sounds to build the audience’s anticipation and curiosity as Lucas scours the house, sounds which, upon the fateful moment of the treasure’s discovery, culminate in a magnificent crescendo as if to say “Eureka!”

“The fantastical music in Happy Face played a huge part in the movie. The protagonist is searching for the fabled treasure so I tried to make that theme magical. I used celesta, a type of keyboard that uses metal instead of strings to create a light and mysterious sound, as well as the flute, harp and shimmering strings, which resulted in a mystical sound and shows the elation of the protagonist when he finds the treasure,” said Redfern.

Happy Face was produced by ESCAC Films, the production company responsible for the films Knifed, Dinosaurio, which received the Nova Autoria Award at the 2013 Catalonian International Film Festival, Los Inocentes, Timothy, Mano a Mano, as well as many others.
